Rita could intensify into a category 5 hurricane, the NHC warned. Generating winds of over 155 mph and 18 foot storm surges and it can rip roofs off most buildings. Only three hurricanes this powerful have ever hit the U.S.
The storm is forecast to hit Texas early on Saturday.

Stop with the Bush bashing. For the last time that PUTZ of a mayor and SKANK of a governor were majorly at fault and no one seems to care. And besides, Bush is the only one who actually apologized for this natural disaster.

If you think Bush has no responsibility for the Federal response to Katrina, check again. It was he who put the wrangler of horse show judges in the position. He should then take some responsibility for the failure of the wrangler. Look at the difference in the response to the situation in Texas, a competent person in that position and everythings seems to be running smoother. Lets wait until afterward to see the end results.
Of course some of the smoothness is just learning from the errors made on Katrina.

Dear R Chortkover et al,
It is true that the ma-tsav in New Orleans was made worse be the inadequate response of the local officials there, which many have compared unfavorably to Mayor Giuliani's performance on 9/11/01. However, the Federal govt's response was every bit as incompetent and maybe more so: The NO-mayor and La-governor are just plain old politicians, while the Feds have two agencies (FEMA and Homeland Security) whose very reason for being is to respond aggressively to crises of this sort. If, with 4 years of preparation since 9/11/01 and with 3 days advance notice that the hurricane was bearing down on NO, this was the best the feds could do, how much good will they be when the surprise terrorist attack arrives? Please do not suggest that the feds have been prepping for Osama, not Katrina. The required response is virtually identical: evacuate the city, get the sick and wounded to medical attention in a safe place, deliver clean food and water and supplies to all concerned. They failed, plain and simple. Maybe the local authorities failed too, but we're not grading on a curve here; there's room for everyone to fail. And while the failure of local politicians was tragic for NO, the failure of the Feds is potentially catastrophic for the entire US.

That's not just a little. Brown wasn't simply incompetent, he was unqualified to begin with. Not only did he have no relevant experience, it seems he was inept at whatever he did previously.

My point is that with NATURAL disasters city and state comes first they have to be able to handle the situation untill federal gets there. Giulliani took control FIRST and that was a terroristic disaster> He didnt sit on his ass and say "federal govt. please help me what do I do".
Bottom line is I blame the mayor and governor first. W. being the Pres. deserves to take some heat and he did, AND he apologized for it and started to see how he can improve.
I am tired of this subject now. I feel like a car stuck on ice. I am out.
