Remember The Iron Sheik?

(tap on the title)

Associated Press-
KABUL, Afghanistan - Khosraw Basheri feverishly pumped iron and toned his body so it rippled with muscle and veins. His hard work paid off Saturday, when he claimed a historic title in his war-battered country — Mr. Afghanistan
At 96 kilograms (212 pounds), Basheri was among the heaviest contenders in the event, which featured nine weight classes and was held at a dilapidated movie theater in the Afghan capital, Kabul.Forty-eight competitors from across the country struck poses onstage, twisting their oiled torsos to display swelling back and abdominal muscles or extending legs to show off sinewy calves. Some winced, others forced smiles.
More than 200 spectators — some wearing turbans, others three-piece suits — crammed into the theater to watch the bodybuilders, who qualified for the event by winning contests in their home provinces and represent the sport's national appeal.

Me thinks Thomas Friedman said it best, but missed the glory, in a column describing why terrorists hate us americans:
"...globalization is in so many ways Americanization: globalization wears Mickey Mouse ears, it drinks Pepsi and Coke, eats Big Macs, does its computing on an IBM laptop with Windows 98. Many societies around the world can't get enough of it, but others see it as a fundamental threat."
The upside: maybe after we get them to devour our bounties and pick up our culture, we can get them to see the world without the blinders of hate, as Stalin said "Ideas are more powerful than guns". How glorious a victory would that be?

I don't know what frightens me more that this story about the Afghani or the fact that I actually remember watching the Iron Sheik wrestling.

Stalins' words ring true so many years later. Powerful ideas have put us in the position we are in today. The idea that freedom is a sin is engraved in every terrorists mind. They are lemmings, following blindly the orders of their "leaders". Hate is their idea, and that is certainly more powerful than any weapon known to man. Don't ever forget 9/11! Don't ever forget our brothers in Gush Katif/Gaza! Hate is what caused these incidents to occur. Liberal @#@$%!! would have you believe it's all Pres. Bushs' fault. DAMN YOU LIBERALS TO HELL!!!
You fuel the fire that is terrorism. 'Those poor defenseless palestinians. It's not their fault they strap bombs to themselves and blow up innocent women and children on their way to work, school, or to get a coffe.' if you had your way Sadaam would be controlling our country instead of sitting in a cell. Dont you idiots get it. The reason you can express your opinions so openly is because of a little thing called FREEDOM. An idea that is non-existant in terrorist culture. When that freedom is threatened, it must be protected. Liberal idealism has forced "western" governments to force Israel to give up land, leaving 9,000 people homeless. (Don't forget pallestenians had paying jobs in Israel.) What will you Libs do when the bombongs continue. Will you call for more land to be given up. Lets drop ship Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins< and the rest of the holywood libs into the lions den, and see how long they'll last. IDIOTS!! You love them so much go live with them!
And We're our own worst enemy. Who can forget that deuche bag jackass bringing flowers to Arafat's hospital bed. Or Hillary hugging and kissing the enemy. Yet she won by a landslide in NY. How can this happen? G-d help us if she manages to slither into the Presidency.
I am now done with my rant.

Amshi, you touched a nerve with that quote and I thank you. I needed to get that off my chest.

Ah! The good ol' days of WWF, when good and evil were so clearly defined. The camel clutch is a classic. How about Sgt. Slaughter and his sleeper hold. There were no protesters during those battles. It was very clear who was the good guy.

Oh well. We are now a nation of pansys. So be it.

    Amshi:

My mind doesn't always function to remember things like that. I sure if you demonstrate it on someone for me I would immediately recognize it.

Gosh, you know, I really miss going to wrestling. You really don't realize how big those guys are until you are 10 feet or less from them.
