Ariel Shar-afat?

.

As you have heard Prime Minister Sharon Addressed the United Nations.

The obese obtuse Prime Minister partially redeemed himself by sticking it to the UN "The Jewish people has a long memory - we remember both positive decisions and negative ones made in this building," ….and that "there are those in this room who still seek to wipe Israel off the map."….The prime minister also expressed hope that the United Nations would in the future begin to be more fair with regard to its treatment of Israel. Kudos.

Unfortunately, he also told the United Nations that the Arabs living in the Land of Israel deserve a state and that Israel is ready for more "painful concessions."..."We have no desire to rule over the Palestinians, who also desire freedom and who deserve their own state."……"I see it as my mission in the coming years to bring the struggle between us and the Palestinians to an end,"

Comments:

"Ariel Sharon told the United Nations that the Land of Israel is dear to him - but apparantly not as dear as keeping his family members out of prison," said MK Tzvi Hendel (National Union), evicted from his home in Ganei Tal as part of the Gaza withdrawal. "The entire Gaza withdrawal was aimed at having the criminal files of Sharon and his sons closed."

"Sharon has revealed himself to be a complete leftist and he is not embarrassed of it," MK Rabbi Benny Elon (National Union) said in response to the speech. "He intends to create an independent state in Judea and Samaria, with Jerusalem as its capital."

If Hendel is right, and Sharon evacuated Gaza to end his family's legal troubles, then you and the other ArutzShevaniks have reason to hope that he won't initiate withdrawals from the West Bank too.

But if Elon is right, and Sharon is a "complete leftist" (think Yossi Beilin in a size 58 suit), then there is cause bo be concerned, because it is difficult to forsee anyone but Sharon winning the next election, even if he has to run as a Laborite (apparently his true colors anyway) to do it.

Personally, I think it's a reasonable supposition that the security fence will define the next withdrawal. But whether or not it ever happens will depend on what the Palestinians do in Gaza.

    Uncle Moishy,

The difference in outcomes between Hendel and Elon is excellent reasoning.

However, I'm with Amshi regarding the "will depends on what the Palestinian...".

the behavior of these subhuman mutants has been just that- subhuman. Yet , there have been absolutely no consequences and Israel still has to be prepared for future concessions.

    Shragie,

There have been all sorts of negative consequences for the Palestinians due to their bad behavior. They now find themselves in a poverty-stricken environment with limited freedoms, esp. freedom of movement.

I believe that the Gaza pullout was designed to provide Israel with a status quo that it can live with for a relatively long time. If, as you and Amshi predict, the Palestinians continue their "subhuman" behavior, then the status quo will continue. If they, against all historical precedent, manage to cobble together a functional gov't and society in Gaza, where non-violence is the norm and the rule of law applies most of the time, they will undoubtedly earn negotiations, a next pullout and statehood. Such a path would have to start with right-minded leadership, which they've never had. I believe that Abbas understands this, but he is pathetically weak. As a result, the status quo will probably prevail for quite some time to come.

    Shabbat Shalom.
